Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate possibilities of backfire and explosion in the surface combustion combustor having a combustion surface of porous material by an arrangement wherein a cooling plate through which a coolant flows is buried in the porous surface. CONSTITUTION:In the surface combustor, the combustion surface is of the porous material 1 structure made by calcining or sintering metal or ceramics. A fuel gas (premixed gas) G which is obtained by preliminarily mixing fuel and combustion air is jetted through a gas pipe 2, a prenum chamber 3 and a great number of narrow holes in the porous material 1 from the combustion surfacd 4. According to the present invention, the cooling plate 5 provided with an inlet 7 and outlet 8 for the cooling medium C is embedded in the porous material 1. The cooling plate 5 has many premixed-gas holes piercing therethrough. In this structure, if the combustion surface 4 moves from the outer surface to the inside of the porous material 1, the surface 4 is cooled by the cooling plate 5, thereby preventing effectively an occurence of backfire.
