Abstract
PURPOSE:To detach the particles formed by drip transfer current from an electrode by means of spray transfer current by using an electric power source of periodically changing non-linear type characteristics. CONSTITUTION:In the period when the characteristics of an electric power source are low in voltage, an operating point moves to the smaller of arc voltages near the power source characteristic curve of the drooping characteristics or constant voltage characteristic of a drip transfer current range so that particles are formed at the electrode end. An arc length is held constant in the same phase of each period by the drooping characteristic or constant voltage characteristic of the power source, and the fluctuations in the current are limited by the constant current characteristic of the drip transfer current range. The power source characteristics are changed to the characteristic of a higher voltage to increase the current quickly up to spray transfer current. The operating point moves to the side of a larger arc voltage along the constant current characteristic curve of the power source and in this period, the former perticles are detached from the electrode by the electromagnetic force of the current.
