Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare a dicarboxylic acid from a hydrocarbon, e.g. n-paraffin, efficiently, by using a microorganism belonging to a yeast in the presence of a glycolipid in a culture medium.
CONSTITUTION: 10W2,000ppm glycolipid which is a compound of an ester or ether of a monosaccharide or polysaccharide with a fatty acid, e.g. ester or ether of D-glucose, maltose, etc. with beef tallow, milk fat, etc. is added to a culture medium consisting of 1W40% substrate consisting of a hydrocarbon, e.g. an n- paraffin, and a nutrient source, e.g. nitrogen source or inorganic salt. A yeast, e.g. Torulopsis candida, belonging to the genus Torulopsis is cultivated in the resultant culture medium, and microbial cells are removed from the culture. The aimed dicarboxylic acid is collected from the culture by the ordinary method, e.g. removal of the microbial cells, precipitation with an acid. A rhamnolipid or sucrose ester of a fatty acid or both produced by a microorganism may be suitable for the glycolipid.
