Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a highly reliable liquid crystal display cell having stable orientation property, by providing an oriented film subjected to rubbing treatment on the surface of the film of a specified organic zirconium compound. CONSTITUTION:A film made of one of organic zirconium compounds represented by formulaeIand II is formed on at least one of 2 electrode bases. An about 10wt% solution of said compounds in toluene or the like is coated on the cleaned electrode base by the rotation coating method or the like to form its film, and then, it is heat treated at 250 deg.C for about 30min. An oriented film is formed by rubbing it in one direction with a brush or the like. The bases thus oriented are overlaid on each other, sealed with epoxy adhesives or the like, and heat cured, thus permitting perfect seal to be executed without deteriorating orientation during heating, and a long-lasting and highly reliable display cell to be obtained.
