Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide light weight while improving antiwear property by combining a cylinder bore and piston ring having the slide surfaces subjected to heat treatment to minimize difference of hardness between them. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder bore is made of hyper-eutectic Al-Si alloy while a piston ring is made of ferroalloy. Steel, cast iron and cast steel are subjected to heat treatment such as hardening, tempering, cementation, nitrising, soft nitrising, etc. to ensure that the difference of hardness between the hyper-eutectic and the primary crystal Si of cylinder bore is smaller than a set value. By the combination of such cylinder bore and piston ring is provided light weight while antiwear property and antiscuff property can be improved.
