Abstract

PURPOSE:To selectively clean and recover toner having both positive and negative polarities, by using a cleaning roll equipped with magnetic carriers having mixed polarities, and two recovery rolls applied with a positive and a negative voltage respectively. CONSTITUTION:A photoreceptor 1 after transfer is treated by corona discharge at a precleaning part 2 and the major part of residual toner has the positive polarity. The toner having the positive and negative polarities is adsorbed electrostatically to mixed-polarity carriers on a magnetic brush cleaning roll 3. Then, the toner having the negative polarity is recovered by the 1st toner recovery roll 5 applied with a positive voltage and then recovered by the 2nd toner recover roll 8 applied with a negative voltage. Thus, the toner having both the positive and negative polarities is cleaned selectively and recovered.
