Abstract

PURPOSE:To elevate the sensitivity of detection with a larger detection signal by winding a DC excitation coil around material to be detected, wrapping it so as to leave a space in which a receiving/transmitting coil is provided. CONSTITUTION:A DC excitation coil 12 is wound around material 1 to be inspected in wrapping manner and a transmitting/receiving coil 11 is disposed at the position facing the material 1 at the center thereof 12. A DC magnetic flux generated from the DC excitation coil 12 mostly passes through the material 1 being inspected in the direction parallel to the surface thereof 1. This makes larger the magnetic field component parallel to the surface of the material being inspected necessary for transmission or reception of a vertical electromagnetic sound wave to increase the detection signal level thereby enabling a higher flaw detection sensitivity.
