Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable smooth starting of an engine with a powerless person, by a method wherein a pressure reduction device is operated at the time of starting of an engine prior to the starting of the engine, and the above pressure reduction device is turned automatically into a nonoperative condition when a speed of a crankshaft is increased up to the one necessary for the starting of the engine. CONSTITUTION:At the time of starting of an engine, an operation lever 44 is pulled rightward first prior to the starting, and a ratchet tooth 43a on a sliding component 43 is made to engage with a ratchet claw 32. Simultaneously with the above matter a plunger 42 is slided rightward by a reaction resulting from a compression spring 45, and a push lever 20 is rotated clockwise through a wire 23. Then, an oscillation end 13a of a rocker arm 13 is pushed by a pushing part 22 of the lever 20, a suction valve 11 is opened a little and a pressure reduction device D is set at an operating condition. After that, when the engine is cranked and a speed of the engine is increased up to a fixed value, engagement of the above tooth 43a with the claw 32 is disengaged by the action of a rotary cam 34 and the operating condition of the pressure reduction device D is released.
