Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain uniform and good chemical conversion films with a safe installation at a low cost by conducting AC current to paired electrodes disposed on both sides with substrates in-between in a chemical conversion bath, and treating the substrates without conducting electricity directly thereto.
CONSTITUTION: A chemical bath in an insulated treating tank 1 is an immersion type phosphate chemical conversion bath consisting essentially of phosphoric acid and zinc white or the like, and substrates 6a, 6b such as steel plates having received pretreatments such as degreasing are moved in said bath by means of a conveyor 7. Paired electrodes 2aWc, 3aWc made of stainless steel or the like are provided on both sides with the passage of said substrates 6a, etc. in-between in said bath, and AC current is conducted thereto from a voltage transformer 4. The current is conducted for ≥5sec, more preferably, 10W90sec at 0.01W7A/dm2, more preferably 0.1W5A/dm2 current densities per unit treating area. No electricity is conducted directly to the substrates 6a, b and the conveyor 7.
