Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an epoxy compound in high conversion and selectivity, by bringing a lower olefin into contact with an organic hydroperoxide in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of a metallic compound selected from Co, Fe, Ni, etc. and a molybdenum compound.
CONSTITUTION: A 3W8C lower olefin, preferably propylene, is reacted with an organic hydroperoxide, preferably ethylbenzene hydroperoxide or tert-butyl hydroperoxide, in the presence of a catalytic system consisting of a compound of a metal selected from Co, Fe, Ni, Cr and Cu and a molybdenum compound at 50W150°C to give the aimed epoxy compound. An organic acid salt or complex salt, e.g. cobalt naphthenate, nickel naphthenate or copper stearate, is preferably used as the compound of Co, Fe, etc. An organic acid salt or complex salt, compound of Mo is preferably used as the molybdenum compound.
