Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate of vitamin B1 etc., economically, by the vapor-phase oxidative dehydrogenation reaction of β-aminopropionitrile with oxygen, etc. in the presence of a specific metal oxide catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Malonodinitrile is prepared by reacting β-aminopropionitrile with oxygen or an oxygen-containing gas at 350W550°C, pref. 380W500°C, using a metal oxide of formula Mo-A (A is one or more metals selected from Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Al, Sn, etc.) as a catalyst. The contact time of the raw material with the catalyst is usually 0.05W20sec., pref. 0.1W5sec.
