CONSTITUTION: β-Aminopropionitrile in the vapor phase is subjected to the oxidative dehydrogenation with oxygen or a gas containing the oxygen in the presence of a metallic oxide expressed by the formula (A is Fe, Cr, etc.; B is Ni, Co, Mn, etc.; C is alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, etc.; D is P, As, etc.; a is 0.1W24; b is 0W24; c is 0W2; d is 0W5; x is the number of oxygen atoms necessary for satisfying the valence of the metallic component contained in the catalyst) as a catalyst to give the aimed compound.
