Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yields useful for an intermediate for pesticides, dyes, and pigments, by subjecting monochlorotoluene to ammoxydation with ammonia and molecular oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst of a specific composition supported on alumina.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of a catalyst of a composition shown by the formula VaCrbXcOd (X is tungsten and/or bismuth; a, b, c and d are number of atom of vanadium, chrome, X, and oxygen; when as is 1, b is 0.5W3, C is 0.005W0.5, d is a value obtained spontaneously by other valences). Monochlorotoluene is subjected to ammoxidation with ammonia and molecular oxygen-containing gas to give the titled desired compound. The reaction temperature is preferably 350W450°C.
EFFECT: The titled compound can be obtained in high yields in high purity at low temperatures.
