PURPOSE:To obtain a recording medium having a metallic magnetic substance film with high coercive force, by providing a continuous film of silicon type and a bismas layer in island shape on a support. CONSTITUTION:On a nonmagnetic support 1 such as polyester film or the like, a film of Si or compound such as SiO2, Si3N4 and SiC is formed with vacuum evaporation or sputtering to obtain an amorphous continuous film 2, having 50- 500Angstrom thickness. Further, a bismath layer 3 is formed on the film 2 with vaacuum evaporation in a discontinuous island film, having 10-1,000Angstrom average film thickness, and moreover, a metallic magnetic thin film 4 made of cobalt or the like is formed on the layer 3 with the vacuum deposition, of 100-1,000Angstrom thickness.
