Abstract

PURPOSE: 2-Hydroxyquinoxaline-4-oxide derivative, as a starting material, is reduced in an alkaline aqueous solution (using water instead of an organic solvent) to produce the titled substance used as a synthetic intermediate of medicaments with no formation of by-products economically and safely.
CONSTITUTION: 2-Hydroxyquinoxaline-4-oxide derivative of formulaI(X is halogen, trifluoromethyl) is reduced with a hydrogen sulfite and/or sulfite salt in the presence of an aqueous alkali such as aqueous sodium hydroxide and/or potassium hydroxide to give a compound of formula II. The concentration of the above aqueous alkali is 2W15wt%, preferably 5W10wt%. Preferable example of the hidrogen sulfite and sulfite salt is sodium hydrogen sulfite or disodium sulfite. The amount is 2W10, preferably 2W5 times the molar amount of the compound of formulaI.
