Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover acetic acid with a little energy advantageously, extracting the acetic acid from an aqueous solution thereof with a mixed solvent in which the distribution coefficient of the acetic acid, the selectivity of the acetic acid for water and the boiling point thereof are combined under specific conditions, and distilling and separating the resultant extract.
CONSTITUTION: Acetic acid is extracted from its aqueous solution 1 with a mixed solvent 2 which is a mixture of a solvent having a higher boiling point than the acetic acid with a solvent having a lower boiling point than the acetic acid, and the component having a lower distribution coefficient in acetic acid has a higher selectivity for water than the other component e.g. a mixed solvent of diisobutyl ketone with ethyl acetate or isophorone with benzene. The acetic acid 9 is then separated and recovered from the resultant extract 3 by the distillation. In the process, the solvent having the lower boiling point than the acetic acid is first removed in the dehydrating step, and the acetic acid concentration in the extract is increased to improve the separability of the acetic acid in the next recovering step of the acetic acid and reduce the thermal load of evaporation due to the solvent having the higher boiling point.
