PURPOSE:To enable to perform a contribution to the improvement of grinding and curing of tooth, by a method wherein, using an ultrasonic thickness measuring device, a dentine thickness is measured. CONSTITUTION:To ultrasonic probes 10a-10c, positioned facing and opposite to dentine 2 of a tooth part 8 through contact mediums 9a-9c, such as glycerine, water, a signal from a transmission pulse generator 14, generating a transmission signal in synchronism with a timing signal from a synchrnous part 13, is transmitted through a switching circuit 11 to generate an ultrasonic signal. Ultrasonic echo on a boudary between the dentine and a nerve 1 enters a thickness measuring part 18 through an amplifier 15 to detect a thickness measuring part 18 through an amplifier 15 to detect the thickness of the dentine by a propagating distance measuring circuit 20 from a circuit 19 and a clock 21, which measure a propagating time from a transmission signal and an echo signal, to display the result in a display device 23.
