Abstract
PURPOSE:To suppress the blooming phenomenon which is caused to an image pickup matter for video signal, by providing an image pickup body for detection of a highlight and controlling the light transmission factor of a liquid crystal matrix based on the result of the highlight detection. CONSTITUTION:The greater part of the incident beam given through a lens 1 is made incident to the 1st image pickup body 3 through a half mirror 2 and via a liquid crystal matrix 5. The rest of the incident beam is made incident to the 2nd image pickup body 4 in the same way. The signal supplied from the body 4 is applied to a binary coding circuit 9 via a sample holding circuit 6, a low pass filter 7 and an amplifier 8 and then sliced at a level equivalent to the saturated charging degree of the body 3. This sliced signal is binary coded and stored in a shift register 10. A driving circuit 11 controls the matrix 5 so as to reduce the transmission factor of the area corresponding to the part to which the light volume larger than the saturated light volume of the body 3 is going to be made incident. Thus the light volume larger than the saturated light volume is not made incident to the body 3.
