PURPOSE:To obtain a gaseous NOX generation inhibitor for a nitric acid pickling bath having high controllability and a superior effect of inhibiting the generation of gaseous NOX by adding acidic ammonium sulfate, urea and sulfuric acid to sulfamic acid as a principal component. CONSTITUTION:When metal is pickled with nitric acid or an acid contg. nitric acid, harmful NOX are generated. At this time, by adding a gaseous NOX generation inhibitor having the following composition to the pickling liq., the generation of NOX is inhibited. The inhibitor consists of 85-95wt% sulfamic acid, 3-10wt% acidic ammonium sulfate, 0.1-5wt% urea and 2-5wt% sulfuric acid.
