PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of gaseous NOx and the formation of smut and to discharge a used pickling soln. without causing trouble by adding specified amounts of sulfamic acid and H2O2. CONSTITUTION:To a nitric acid pickling soln. for metal contg. 3-30wt% nitric acid are added 0.6-10wt% sulfamic acid and 0.01-10wt% H2O2. The preferred molar ratio of H2O2 to sulfamic acid is (2-4):1. When steel products are pickled with the resulting pickling soln., gaseous NOx are not generated, and smut does not remain on the surfaces of the steel products. The used pickling soln. is discharged without requiring an additional treating process.
