Abstract
PURPOSE: To melt an inoculating material in molten iron efficiently by charging an adequate amount of the inoculating material in a container consisting of a thick paper tube and a bottom lid, and dipping a push rod made of a refractory material inserted into the upper end part of the paper tube in the molten cast iron by a plunger device.
CONSTITUTION: A paper tube for inoculation consists of a paper tube 1 having 5W15mm thickness and a paper-made bottom lid 2 for blocking the lower end part of the paper tube, and an inoculating material 3 for cast iron is charged in the paper tube 1. Then, a push rod 4 formed by building up blocks 5 of refractory materials such as chamotte brick and alumina by a core rod 7 made of soft steel having a screw part 6 atop is inserted into the upper end part of the paper tube 1. This push rod 4 is fitted to the arm 13 of a plunger device 12 through a fitting hole 8 and the plunger device 12 is operated to dip the paper tube 1 in molten cast iron 15. Then, the bottom lid 2 burns up and the inoculating material 3 is melted, thereby stirring the molten iron 15 by violent blowing reaction between the molten iron 15 are paper tube 1.
