Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a crucible which is easy to start at the casting and permits stable casting by providing an outside wall made of graphite via a stamp material to the inside wall made of MgO or Al2O3. CONSTITUTION:The crucible for continuous casting of small diameter rods of metals, particularly, small diameter rods of about <=10mm. diameters consists of an inside vessel 2 which is a sintered body of MgO or Al2O3 and an outside vessel 3 of a graphite molding of a diameter slightly larger than of the former. MgO or Al2O3 base stamp material is stamped between vessels 2, 3. This double wall construction crucible is contained in a furnace body 1, and a stamp material 5 is stamped between the vessel 3 and the body 1. A molten metal draw out port 6 is provided on the side in the lower part of the crucible and this communicates with a mold 7 through the body 1. If high frequency is applied to the high frequency coil 8 of this furnace, the graphite 3 evolves heat and therefore the molten metal can be preheated to arbitrary temps. only by the regulation of electric power. Even more, there is no possibility of the temp. drop of the crucible during teeming of the molten metal. The molten metal temp. during casting is maintained uniformly and constantly irrespectively of the amt. of the molten metal.
