Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a display having a high contrast and excellent visibility, by obtaining a guest-host liquid crystal layer by mixing plural polychromatic dyestuffs having a slight difference among the extremely large wavelengths absorbed to a visible region in a proper mixing raio. CONSTITUTION:An equal weight mixture 10 of a polychromatic dyestuff G162 (NIPPON KANKO SHIKISO KENKYUJO) of 8.7 dichromatic ratio, 554nm aborbed extermely large wavelength and 120nm half value width and a polychromatic dyestuff G165 (NIPPON KANKO SHIKISO KENYUJO) of 8.7 dichromatic ratio, 592nm absorbed extremely large wavelength and 120nm half value width are added to a nematic liquid crystal 9 having the positive dielectric anisotropy in about 0.6wt% to liquid crystal material 8. A polarizing plate 11 is set at the front of a display device, and horizontal or vertical orientated film 3 or 5 is formed on the transparent electrodes 2 and 6 of the glass bustrates 1 and 7, respectively. In such a way, an absorption spectrum of a wide 202nm half value width (shown in the above-mentioned example) is secured by mixing the >=2 types of polychromatic dyestuffs having absorbed extremely large wavelengths approximate to each other. Thus a high-contrast display is obtained.
