Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the hard viewing of a liquid crystal display element which is caused by uneven color, by setting the value of the product of the anisotropy of the refractive index and the thickness of the liquid crystal at <= specific mum and at the same tim, adding a small amount of coloring matter to the liquid crystal material. CONSTITUTION:The value of the product of the anisotropy n of refractive index of the liquid crystal and the liquid crystal layer thickness (d) is set to <=1.2mum. At the same time, a small amount of coloring matter to added to the liquid crystal material to make even the background part of display. Thus a black display is given on the white background to obtain a twisted nematic type liquid crystal display element. The coloring matter which has good dissolving performance to the liquid crystal material with even mixture is usable. In case a coloring matter which is used to a guest-host type liquid crystal display element, etc. is used, an easier-to-see display is secured since the effect of the coloring matter is substantially eliminated for the black display at the glowing part.
