Abstract
PURPOSE:To enlarge a visual field range and improve constrast by setting the refractive index anisotropy of liquid crystal materials and the product of thickness of liquid crystal layers at below specific values and providing a color display of the ground color similar to the liquid crystal color by using color polarization plates in a TN type liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:In a TN type liquid crystal display element, the value of DELTAn.d is so set as to attain <=0.5 when the refractive index anisotropy of liquid crystal materials is difined as DELTAn, and the display numerical value by mum of the thickness of liquid crystal layers as (d), by which a visual field range is widened, and contrast is improved. In order to compensate the problem of coloring, the problem of occurrence of color irregularities caused by the decreased value of DELTAn.d, color displaying of the ground color similar to the color of the liquid crystal is carried out by using a color polarization plate. The decrease in the value of DELTAn.d is achieved by using a liquid crystal material of small DELTAn or decreasing the thickness of the liquid crystal layers.
