Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove nitrogen oxides present in waste gas by reduction and also offensively odorous substances by oxidation in the inside of a reactor by a method in which a catalytic reactor is provided near the waste gas outlet of a multistage type sludge incinerator and ammonia present in the combustion waste gas of the incinerator is utilized. CONSTITUTION:A catalytic reactor is provided in the waste gas line of a multistage type incinerator 1. When the temperature of waste gas reaches below 250 deg.C, the valve 14 of the auxiliary fuel line 13 of a heat generator 12 is adjusted by a temperature controller 16 to increase the amount of fuel and thereby to raise the temperature of the waste gas at the outlet of the incinerator. The concentration of ammonia as a reducing agent is kept similarly to or more than that of NOX by maintaining the air ratio of the incinerator at about 1.3- 2.0. By this, nitrogen oxides present in the waste gas can be removed by reduction and also offensively odorous substances can be removed by oxidation by utilizing ammonia present in the combustion waste gas without the needs for the injection of ammonia and the raising of the gas temperature.
