Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce NOX to harmless N2 gas by reacting urea and NOX by a method wherein atomized, diluted, nonflammable waste liquid containing urea is introduced into NOX-containing waste gas.
CONSTITUTION: Nitrogen-containing fuel oil is combusted as a fuel using a combustion burner 4 in the incinerator 1. At this time urea-containing dilute aqueous solution whose nitrogen concentration is less than about 2% is introduced from the nonflammable waste liquid tank 7 through the nonflammable solution spray 6. The urea in aqueous solution is uniformly mixed with the combusted gas in molecular state at a high temperature and selectively reduces NOX, converting it to harmless N2 gas. Thereafter, the gas is passed through the quick-cooling tower 15, neutralizing cleaning towers 17, 18, and cooling coil 19, and is discharged from the smoke- stack 9 to the air as nonpolluted waste gas.
