Abstract

PURPOSE: A flame-retarding phenolic urethane foam having excellent heat-insulating property and a crumbling-resistant surface, prepared by reacting a benzyl ether type liquid phenol resin with a mixed polyisocyanate containing an aromatic type and an aliphatic type.
CONSTITUTION: The purpose urethane foam is prepared by reacting a phenol resin consisting mainly of a benzyl ether type liquid phenol resin containing benzyl ether groups, methylol groups and methylene groups with a mixed polyisocyanate consisting of below 95wt% aromatic polyisocyanate resin (e.g., toluene diisocyanate) and above 5wt% aliphatic polyisocyanate resin (e.g., hexamethylene diisocyanate) in the presence of a blowing agent, foam stabilizer and curing agent. As the benzyl ether type liquid phenol resin, there is preferred a resin having a methylol group/benzyl ether group ratio of about 0.5W2.5.
