Abstract

PURPOSE: An epoxide is added to a reaction mixture from phenol, an aromatic amine, an aldehyde and an alkanolamine to produce a polyol that gives the titled polyurethane with good physical properties such as dimensional stability.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction is effected, preferably by using (A) phenol, (B) aniline, (C) formaldehyde or paraformaldehyde, and (D) a dialkanolamine at a molar ratio of 1/4W4/1 in A/B, 2/0.1W1/2 in C/D, and 1/2W2/1 in (A+B)/C. A2W4C alkylene oxide is made to react with the reaction mixture to give the objective polyol of 300W 700 hydroxyl value. The resultant polyol, a polyisocyanate, and additives such as catalysts or foaming agent are made to react to form a rigid polyurethane foam.
EFFECT: The polyol induces smooth reactions of urethane formation.
