Abstract

PURPOSE: An epoxide is added to a reaction mixture from urea, an aldehyde, an aliphatic amine to give a polyol with high reactivity giving a rigid polyurethane foam with high flame retardancy.
CONSTITUTION: (A) Urea or a combination thereof with a compound reactive with an aldehyde such as a phenol or aromatic amine or amino-S-triazine, (B) an aldehye and (C) a primary or secondary aliphatic amine, preferably an alkanolamine, are made to react. Then, an alkylene oxide is made to react with the reaction mixture to produce the objective polyol of 300W800 hydroxyl value. Further, the polyol is made to react with a polyisocyanate to produce a rigid polyurethane foam.
