Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform the connecting of optical fibers with a loss of connection less than the prescribed value by just the mechanical positioning, by setting the difference between the outer diameters of the cladding parts of two optical fibers and the degree of eccentricity between the cladding part and the core part of each fiber at the value less than a prescribed level respectively. CONSTITUTION:The difference of the outer diameters is set at <=1.6mum for the cladding parts of the connection end faces of two single mode optical fibers. At the same time, the degree of eccentricity is set at <=0.4mum between the center of the cladding part and the core part on the connection end face of each optical fiber. As a result, the loss of connection is reduced down <=0.1dB/ Km for connection by just the mechanical positioning through an adjustment-free connecting device, etc.
