Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent background staining of a recording material, by destaticizing the surface of the recording material so as to deviate the potential level of said surface to the polarity opposite to that of the charge of an electrostatic latent image after the destaticization. CONSTITUTION:An electrostatic latent image having a potential approximate to -V1 volts is formed on a recording material (the latent image forming step R1), on the other hand, the background part of the recording material is kept at 0 volt, positively charged toner is attached to the latent image kept at this negative potential to form a toner image (the developing step R2), this is transferred onto a transfer material by negative charge (the transferring step R3), the recording material surface is destaticized with a destaticizing device consisting of a corona discharger in order to deviate the lowest potential level part C' of the dispersion width A' of the surface potential to the positive side from 0 volt (the destaticizing step R4), and the first recording cycle is thus completed, permitting this surface potential to be used as the background potential of the recording material for the next recording cycle, and background staining in the developing step R2 to be prevented because the background part is charged to the same polarity as the toner in the second recording cycle.
