Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the characteristics of high coercive force and high saturation magnetization, and to improve a transfer characteristic in the case when the titled powder is used for a magnetic tape, etc. largely by denaturing magnetic iron oxide grains by cobalt, ferrous salt and barium or strontium. CONSTITUTION:A cobalt salt aqueous solution, the ferrous salt aqueous solution and barium or strontium salt are added into the dispersed liquid of the magnetic iron oxide grains expressed by FeOX.Fe2O3 (where 0<=X<=1), the concentration of OH radicals in the solution is brought to 0.05-3.0mol/l by adding alkali, the solution is agitated and held in a nonoxidizing atmosphere at a 50-100 deg.C solution temperature, and the magnetic iron oxide grains are denatured by cobalt, ferrous salt and barium or strontium, and filtered and dried. Accordingly, the characteristics of high coercive force and high saturation magnetization are produced, and the transfer characteristic in the case when the titled powder is used for the magnetic tape, etc. can largely be improved.
