Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the reliability of an exciter for a synchronous machine by rapidly reducing a field current to zero through an attenuating circuit at the time of an accident, thereby suppressing the temperature rise of a thyristor. CONSTITUTION:When the excitation of a field coil of a generator 1 should be stopped due to an accident or the like, a main breaker 2 is first opened to disconnect the generator 1 from an AC system 4, and the output of an automatic voltage regulator 8 is stopped. Since a gate signal to a thyristor rectifier 5 is thus interrupted, the thyristor of the rectifier 5 does not fire, but only the thyristor in which an exciting current flows continues its conducting state. A contact 12 is closed in the gate blocked state of the rectifier 5, a resistor 13 is connected, a power breaker 6 is then opened, and the resistor 13 is operated as a discharging resistor, thereby rapidly reducing the exciting current to zero.
