Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable quick and continuous measurement of the corrosion rate of metal plates by measuring a decreased rate of the level of an electric charge which is applied in a fixed amount between the metal plates facing each other with a very small clearance. CONSTITUTION:With a switch S6 opened and a switch S8 closed, a fixed amount of an electric charge is applied to a capacitor 5 and then the switch 8 is opened and the switch S6 is closed. When the capacity of the capacitor 5 is set at a value by far small than that of a capacitor formed by the metal plates 1 and 2, the electric charge accumulated in the capacitor 5 shifts between the metal plates 1 and 2 momentarily. When the switchs 6 is opened, the potential between the metal plates 1 and 2 rises instantaneouly at a time t0 by applying a fixed amount of the electric charge between the plates 1 and 2 and then, gradually decreases with the passage of time. The corrasion rate of the metal plates 1 and 2 in the air can be determined by measuring the secular change of the potential.
