Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture optical glass with about 1.60 refractive index, about 60 Abbe's number and superior weathering resistance by adding specified amounts of Al2O3, La2O3, ZrO2 and Na2O to SiO2-B2O3-BaO glass.
CONSTITUTION: Starting materials are blended so as to provide a composition consisting of 26W30% SiO2, 18W23% B2O3, 2W5% Al2O3 , 40W45% BaO or CaO, 2W5% La2O3, <1% ZrO2, <1% Na2O and <0.5% As2O3. The blended starting materials are melted at 1,350W1,450°C, homogenized, and slowly cooled to a prescribed temp. to obtain optical glass for a lens having the desired refractive index and Abbe's number and causing no yellowing phenomenon when worked into a camera lens.
