Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a hydrogen storing material with large hydrogen occuluding capacity by mixing FeTi1+X powder with Fe7Ti10O3 powder in a specified ratio, melting only the FeTi1+X, and rapidly cooling the mixture to finely disperse the Fe7Ti10O3.
CONSTITUTION: FeTi1+X (x≤0.3) powder is blended with Fe7Ti10O3 powder and well mixed. The mixture is caked by heating, and after melting only the FeTi1+X by remelting, the mixture is rapidly cooled at a high rate to obtain a material contg. finely dispersed Fe7Ti10O3. The cooling rate is ≥ about 103°C/sec. The desirable blending ratio between the powders is about 10W100 by weight as FeTi1+X/Fe7Ti10O3.
