Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the slopping in a desiliconization period completely by substituting part or the whole of bottom blowing oxygen with an inert gas alone or a mixture thereof in part or the whole of the desiliconization period. CONSTITUTION:In the state of refining pig iron to steel by an oxygen top blown converter method, N2, Ar, CO2 or air is mixed with bottom blowing pure oxygen in a continuous period from the start of blowing to the end of desiliconization or a part of said period. Any of these gases alone or a mixture thereof is substituted with pure oxygen which is blown. Then, part of the blown gas remains as a gaseous state, and the agitation of the steel bath is maintained by the foam thereof, whereby the slopping in the desiliconization period is thoroughly prevented. The slopping in the end period of the desiliconization period or after this is suppressed approximately perfectly by changing the blowing conditions.
