Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an intermediate of pharmaceuticals such as antiphlogistic, analgesic and antipyretic agent, economically, by using a raw material which is easily available in an industrial scale, via a novel intermediate 1-(2',6'-dichlorophenyl)-2-methylthioindole.
CONSTITUTION: The compound of formulaIis reduced with a reducing agent such as titanium trichloride preferably in a solvent such as water, ethanol, etc., and treated with an acid to obtain a novel compound of formula II, which is treated with an acid, especially a mineral acid such as hydrobromic acid in an aqueous medium preferably in the presence of an organic carboxylic acid compatible with water, e.g. acetic acid, to obtain the objective compound of formula III. Hydrolysis of the resultant compound yields the compound of formula IV whose Na salt is useful as the above-mentioned pharmaceutical. The compound of formulaIcan be prepared from a raw material which can be obtained easily in an industrial scale. Accordingly, the above pharmaceutical can be prepared by this process, economically, in an industrial scale, using simple reaction procedures and reduced number of steps throughout the whole process from an industrially available raw material.
