Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a thermal printer which is capable of printing clear characters by such an arrangement wherein a heat resistive supporting material layer in which a heat dissoluble material is provided is placed on a sheet of recording paper and characters are recorded by causing a thermal head arranged at the back of the supporting layer to generate heat. CONSTITUTION:A printing tape 13 is formed by providing a layer 5 containing a heat dissoluble material on a relatively thin heat resistive substance layer 6 and the layer 5 of the tape 13 is caused to closely contact with a sheet of recording paper 11 and a thermal heat 10 having plural heat generating elements is arranged on the surface of the supporting substance layer 6 through an elastic material. The head 10 is heated by supplying a current to islands 1', 1'', 1''' having built-in heat generating elements inside the head and at the same time it is moved in the direction of an arrow, and the heat dissoluble material layer 5 of the tape 13 is dissolved by the head and dissolved portions 5', 5'' are transferred for printing onto the recording paper 11 and at the same time the tape 13 is moved in the direction of an arrow which points the left and diagonally downward.
