Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a thermal printer in which transfer medium is prevented from sliding to lower printing quality, by providing means for pressing the medium against recording medium. CONSTITUTION:When this thermal printer makes transfer recording of recording paper, a transfer medium (printing tape) PT provided with the ink having heat- melting material on heat-resistant support layer is placed on recording paper, a thermal head TH is placed on the back of the layer, and the material is melted by the heating of the head. Rollers PR1 and PR2 are rotatably provided at the both ends of the head TH. The rollers PR1 and PR2 make the frictional force between the head TH and the tape PT smaller than that between the tape PT and the paper RM when in printing position and presse the tape PT against the paper RM.
