Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the heat capacity of a head and enable to print at high speeds, by a method wherein printing is conducted by generating heat directly in a recording ribbon through an electric discharge between the ribbon and an electrode. CONSTITUTION:The recording ribbon 2 comprises a heat-sensitive material layer 22 provided on a base 21 on the side faced to a printing paper 1, and an electric discharge layer 23 on the other side of the base 21. When an output voltage of a signal source 5 is turned to be ''1'', an electric discharge takes place between the electrode 31 and the electric discharge layer 23 to sublime the layer 23 and generate heat in the base 21. The layer 22 is melted by the heat and is transferred onto the paper 1 to produce a dot. Accordingly, when the signal voltage is ''1'', the dot is printed.
