Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of coupling of an optical coupling device by arranging two cylindrical lenses opposite to each other in such a way that their axial cores are at right angles. CONSTITUTION:Semicylindrical lenses 1 and 2 having focal lengths f1 and f2 have their axial cores X-X and Y-Y crossing at right angles, and their plane parts are opposed to each other at distance (l) and at right angles to an optical axis N-N. Circular liminous flux from a light source 3 when passing through the lens 2 is condensed horizontally into elliptic luminous flux having a vertical long diameter and a horizontal short diameter, and this luminous flux when passing through the lens 2 is further condensed vertically, so the luminous flux changes in shape to a vertical line at a point P1 and to a horizontal line at a point P2, efficiently coupling an optical fiber with a plane type waveguide, etc.
