The light receiving surface of the semiconductor optical position detecting element 10 is located in a focus plane which is perpendicular to the optical axis of the optical system 9, and fixed so that the optical axis is positioned between detecting electrodes. The output currents of the electrodes of the detecting element 10 are connected to a computing part 11, and the computed result is outputted or displayed through an output circuit 12.
