Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain a cushioning property which corresponds to the running condition of a vehicle, by continuously increasing or decreasing the opening pressure for a damping valve according to the attractive force of a solenoid unit. CONSTITUTION:A piston 2 made of a magnetic substance is provided with a valve body having a cylindrical internal opening 2B. A coil 27 wound around a bobbin 16 is housed in the opening 2B of the valve body so that the coil is fitted around a stepped part 13. A solenoid unit 18 is thus constructed. A seat 22 is provided on the flange 16 of the bobbin 16 made of a magnetic substance, so that the seat is located at the port of a valve hole 21. When the solenoid unit 18 is excited, an expansion-side damping valve 20 for closing the seat 22 is pulled on the attracting peripheral part 24 of the piston 2 to increase the thrust on the valve seat 22 to heighten the damping force. The damping force can continuously be varied by changing the excitation of the solenoid unit 18.
