Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a proportional damping performance of a pressure-sensitive type hydraulic shock absorber suited for use in a motor bicycle or the like, by providing a valve means for interrupting the damping force at an end part of a spool adapted for restricting the oil passages extended between an oil reserving chamber and an oil chamber. CONSTITUTION:The internal pressure of the hydraulic shock absorber is changed with its storke position, and the shock absorber comprises a valve means 11 which serves to restrict oil passages 17-19 extended between an oil reserving chamber of an inner tube (not shown) and an oil chamber D in an outer tube 1 in response to the pressure produced in the oil reserving chamber. Here, the valve means 11 includes an outer spool 16a supported inside the body 12 by means of bearings 13, 14 and an inner spool 16b threaded into the outer spool 16a in a unitary manner. At a rear portion of the inner spool 16b, there is provided an annular, conical valve 20 capable of restricting the effective sectional area of a port 17, in the manner that it is freely slidable. The valve 20 is urged onto a stepped part 24 by a spring 22.
