Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain a cushioning property which corresponds to the running condition of a vehicle, by continuously increasing or decreasing the opening pressure for a damping valve according to the attractive force of a solenoid unit. CONSTITUTION:A piston 2 is provided with a valve body having a cylindrical internal opening 2B. A coil 17 wound around a bobbin 16 is provided in the internal openig 2B so that the coil is secured with a cover 19 and a secured shaft 15 at the tip of a piston rod 4. A solenoid unit 18 is thus constructed. When the solenoid unit 18 is excited, an expansion-side damping valve 20 for closing a seat 22 is pulled toward the end 19a of the cover 19 made of a magnetic substance, to reduce the thrust of a valve spring 23 on the valve seat 22. The set load on the expansion-side damping valve 20 can continuously be changed according to the exciting current for the coil 17 of the solenoid unit 18 to increase or decrease the damping force in a stepless manner.
