Abstract

PURPOSE:To operate an engine in optimum ignition timing, in an electronic ignition timing controller, by using a correlative quantity to combustion pressure as at least a detection signal and controlling ignition timing. CONSTITUTION:At signal input to a cylinder discriminator 4, a CPU8 resets a built-in counter 8A to start counting by an angular signal of a rotary speed sensor 1. While counting of the counter 8A is divided by 0-60-...240-300-0, and a start counting value in a section is subtracted from the counting value, input with a maximum value of A/D conversion of output from a pressure sensor 5 in each section, to obtain a value theta, further a means value theta0 is obtained from the newest four theta and stored in an RAM10. Then an advance value M is retrieved from a characteristic A when a valve full close detector switch 3 is turned on by a reference position signal of the sensor 1 from a characteristic B when the switch 3 is turned off. Then the theta0 is compared with a predetermined value K to decide the ignition timing correction coefficient m and control the ignition timing so as to be M+m before top dead center.
