Abstract

PURPOSE: To well reduce an easily oxidizable element in a Co superalloy without causing decarburization and carburization by introducing a reducing gas into a furnace while regulating the internal pressure to a specified range in the sintering step for the superalloy under reduced pressure.
CONSTITUTION: Powdered metallic starting materials contg. ≥1 kind of alloying element havng ≥110kcal/g.mole O2 standard oxide forming energy at 1,000°C are sintered in a furnace. In part or the whole of the sintering step a reducing gas such as CO or H2 is introduced into the furnace while regulating the internal pressure to about 0.2W500 Torr. The sintering step is generally composed of the stage of a temp. rise from room temp. to the sintering temp. in an evacuated state, the stage of keeping at the sintering temp. and the stage of cooling from the sintering temp. to room temp., and according to the progress of sintering said reducing gas is suitably introduced to regulate the pressure of the gas in the furnace. Thus, decarburization, carburization and the oxidation of said easily oxidizable element such as Cr or Mn during sintering are prevented, and the reduction and alloying of the oxide can be accelerated.
