Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a rough tubular material of good metallic structure having no casting defects by forming a coating layer consisting of refractories such as silica sand on the inside circumferential surface of the outside cylinder of a metal mold and stabilizing the coating layer with a mold coating material layer then charging molten metal and centrifugally casting the same. CONSTITUTION:An outside cylinder 1 of a cylindrical metallic mold is supported and rotated by revolving rollers in rotary guide grooves 2. The revolving cylinder 1 is preheated to about 200-300 deg.C, and refractories of relatively large specific gravities such as silica sand or zircon sand preheated to about 200- 300 deg.C are put into the cylinder 1 through a molding trough 5 and are sprayed therein, whereby a uniform refractory coating layer 6 of desired thickness is formed on the inside circumferential surface of the cylinder 1 by the centrifugal forces developed by the revolution of said cylinder. Thence, the trough 5 is removed, and a spray nozzle 7 is inserted therein, through which a slurrylike mold coating material consisting of bentonite, diatomaceous earth, water, etc. is sprayed, and is dried by the heat retained by the layer 6, whereby a firm mold coating material layer 8 is formed.
